  • A New Waste Page

I’m currently on my way back from Melbourne, so rather than penning a post about waste I thought I’d take this opportunity to alert you to a page I created over the weekend. My dear ol’ iPhone 3 is on it’s last legs and rather temperamental these days, so using it for any lengthy period is a recipe for angst, but I digress. If you lift your eyes up to the menu, you’ll see that the page titled ‘waste’ is still there. Yeah, yep you’ve seen that before. So what’s this crazy lady going on about? Well, if you hover your mouse over the ‘waste’ a little subtitle will drop down. That, my friends, is where all of my ramblings/rants/goings on about all things related to food waste have relocated to. If you actually click on the ‘waste’, it’ll take you to a page with a fantastic visual summary about food waste in Australia. How about that?

It blew my mind when I came across it, and quite effectively summarises a lot of the points I want to make about waste. And I’m sure you’d much rather look at a nice, colourful picture than read my natterings about the subject! Even if you don’t read each individual fact – I won’t bite your head off, I promise – I hope that at least a few will jump out at you. The one that narked me the most was that the worst culprits are ‘young consumers’ (18 – 24 year olds). Aren’t we the ones that are meant to be the so called ‘change makers’, the ones out to ‘save the world’ and all that? Well, in this respect we ain’t doing a very good job. At all.

But, as I said earlier, this isn’t intended to be a proper post, so I’ll bite my tongue and leave it at that (also, my phone’s starting to get rather twitchy). The info-graphic certainly made me reconsider the food I buy and how I use it. I hope it encourages you to do the same. Over and out.
