      Warm Roast Vegetable Hummus Wraps

      I’ve upped my game at Christmas. But not in the sense you may think. In that this year I let go entirely of the restrictive mindset. Ate whatever the hell I wanted. Faced the immediate consequences. Of sugar rushes. Of feeling far too full to be comfortable. Of having to lay sprawled out on the floor on my stomach, in front of the air conditioner to try and combat the food sweats. First round of dessert, followed by a main meal of red and green M&Ms, and finished with a second round of dessert was a thing. It might seem ridiculous to be proud of letting go, of indulging (okay, maybe over-indulging at times). But for someone who for the last three years has battled with over-monitoring their food, with eating far less than they really should have, it’s a big step. Things have been improving significantly in recent times – there’s still been stabs of guilt and/or the pangs of ignored hunger, but they’re rapidly reducing in frequency and ferocity.       Please, please don’t let the name put you off! I could have changed it, in order for it to be a lot little more appealing. However, I couldn’t bear to alter it, when this soup has played such an important role in my ‘food life’. It would be blasphemy in a way, betrayal at the least. Strangely I actually don’t know how the name originated, but it does add to the mystery. What is not so mysterious is the contents of the soup. Pretty much anything, that’s what. My dad was brought up on a farm in rural Western Australia. Having moved from South Africa in the late 1950’s, my grandparents were starting a new life in a foreign land, with foreign people. Needless to say, things were tough for a start, and not just economically. This soup epitomises the meaning of ‘taste without waste’ in the most literal sense. Use what you have. And use it in a way that produces an appetising end product. Continue reading →
